This project creates a new model for student living that prioritises communal spaces beyond industry standards.

Located adjacent to public transport within the densifying City North innovation precinct, the concept is based on an assemblage of stacked forms that ‘slip’ off vertical alignment to one another, acknowledging the neighbouring context. This creates a building that is read at the street scale, the pre-existing midrise scale of the precinct and the emerging scale foreshadowed by the precinct planning controls.

The simplicity and honesty of materials is a key focus, with a palette and architectural features that takes cues from the buildings of the University of Melbourne’s Parkville campus
