Last night, La Trobe University Student Accommodation received the 2020 Australian Timber Design Award: Multi-Residential category.

The student living development – the largest mass timber building in Victoria – utilises 4500 cubic metres of Cross Laminated and GluLam timber. Enough CLT panels were used to cover the MCG playing surface twice over.

Setting a new benchmark for sustainability, this innovative use of mass timber construction along with a high performance united facade system will substantially lower the building’s carbon footprint during its lifespan.

Congratulations to the JCB project team, our client La Trobe University, builder Multiplex and consultants Duo Projects, Stantec, TTW, WGA, Scientific Fire Services, XLam Dolomiti, ASPECT Studios, Latitude and Philip Chun.

Now in its 21st year, the Australian Timber Design Awards is a national competition created to promote and encourage outstanding timber design in the built environment.
